Twitter’s Gangster Spam Trap (or, stop screwing the rest of us over by playing lame games)

Twitter’s innocuous-looking mobster game has turned the micro-messaging service into an unstoppable spam service. And just like the real Mafia, once you join, you can never get out.

I've had a half dozen or so of these invites, and have been blocking the senders for being lame-ass time-wasters.

Rushkoff's article makes it clear the senders are not, in fact, time-wasters with nothing better to do than play lame Twitter games (because they have Facebook quizzes for that, I imagine). Even so, the offenders at least considered joining and playing the game.

As I have written elsewhere, playing Facebook quizzes and games compromises not only your own private information, but that of all of your Facebook friends. And, it turns out, playing this Twitter game turns you into a spambot.

In other words, do your friends a favor. Resist that game!
